The Laguna Esmeralda trek is an active excursion that involves a hike through the Tierra Mayor Valley to one of Ushuaia's most emblematic landscapes. This moderate difficulty trek allows us to explore the Fuegian forest, observe the impact of beavers on the environment, and end up on the shores of the lagoon to appreciate its stunning color.

Our Laguna Esmeralda excursion is an active proposal, ideal for those who enjoy hiking and being in direct contact with the nature of the End of the World. This adventure leads us to discover one of the most striking landscapes in the region: the iconic Laguna Esmeralda, a body of water with an unmistakable color.

The tour begins with a pick-up service at hotels in Ushuaia around 08:30 am. The hike goes through the Tierra Mayor Valley, an environment that can have wet terrain depending on weather conditions. With the appropriate clothing, the trail does not represent a major challenge for trekking enthusiasts.

During the approximately 2-hour hike to the lagoon, we will explore the local flora and fauna, and we can observe the impact of beavers, an exotic species that has modified the landscape. The effort of the journey is widely rewarded upon arriving at the shore.

Once at Laguna Esmeralda, we will enjoy a lunch in this unique natural setting before starting the return to where our vehicle will be waiting for us. The arrival in the city of Ushuaia is estimated at around 03:00 pm.

Essential Clothing: The "Onion" Method
To ensure comfort during outdoor activities, dressing in layers is crucial. The "onion" system allows you to adapt your clothes to changing weather conditions and your level of physical activity.

  • Layers: Wear several thin layers that can be easily put on or taken off to regulate your body temperature in response to wind or sun.
  • Footwear: This is the most important item. We recommend waterproof footwear that offers robust protection, ideal for walking on wet, muddy, or snowy terrain.
  • Jacket: Essential. A waterproof or water-resistant jacket will effectively protect you from rain and wind.

Recommended Clothing:

  • Thermal undergarments (shirt and leggings for those who are particularly sensitive to the cold).
  • Comfortable long pants for trekking.
  • Waterproof trekking boots for walking on mountainous terrain.
  • A fleece or microfleece jacket/sweatshirt.
  • A rain/windproof jacket. Ideal: Gore-tex or softshell.
  • Warm hat and neck warmer (buff). Gloves.
  • An extra pair of socks.
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Bringing your own bottle helps us avoid using disposable plastics: we will have water to refill it!
