This is a trek of moderate-to-high intensity that takes us to one of the most beautiful and least-visited places in Ushuaia. We will travel a trail with a steep incline through a native forest to reach a glacial lagoon of a stunning turquoise color. The adventure then culminates with the ascent to the summit of Mount Carbajal, from where you get a privileged view of the valleys and the imprint that glaciers have left on the landscape.

The excursion begins with a transfer from your hotel to the Tierra Mayor Valley, where we start an intense hike along one of Ushuaia's least-visited trails.

The first part of the journey is an ascent with a steep incline, where we are accompanied by the centuries-old lenga trees of the Fuegian subantarctic forest. After about 45 to 60 minutes of demanding hiking, the forest is left behind to reveal incredible views.

Once above the forest, we get a first look at the small and beautiful Laguna Turquesa, of glacial origin. After a short rest to appreciate its striking color, we continue gaining altitude along a rocky ridge to the summit of Mount Carbajal.

From the summit, you get a privileged view of the landscape. You can appreciate the imprint of the glaciers that, during the last ice ages, descended toward the Beagle Channel, crossing the Tierra Mayor and Carbajal valleys and shaping this majestic environment.

Essential Clothing: The "Onion" Method
To ensure comfort during outdoor activities, dressing in layers is crucial. The "onion" system allows you to adapt your clothes to changing weather conditions and your level of physical activity.

  • Layers: Wear several thin garments that can be easily put on or taken off to regulate your body temperature in response to wind or sun.
  • Footwear: This is the highest priority. It is vital to have waterproof footwear that offers robust protection, ideal for walking on wet, muddy, or snowy terrain.
  • Jacket: Indispensable. A waterproof or water-resistant jacket will effectively protect you from rain and wind.

Recommended Clothing:

  • Thermal undergarments (shirt and leggings for those who are particularly sensitive to the cold).
  • Comfortable long pants for trekking.
  • Waterproof trekking boots for walking on mountainous terrain.
  • A fleece or microfleece jacket/sweatshirt.
  • A rain/windproof jacket. Ideal: Gore-tex or softshell.
  • A warm hat and neck warmer (buff); gloves.
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Bringing your own reusable bottle helps us avoid using disposable plastics.
